Porcelain Veneers

At Safavi Dental Clinic, our dentists in Pickering are here to help you with a variety of cosmetic or restorative dental procedures. These may be designed to treat an entire tooth, or just a portion.

A porcelain veneer is a type of dental fixture which is designed to be placed over the exterior of a tooth. It can be used to cover stains or chips, but can also be used to help correct misalignment or create uniformity without reducing the entire tooth to accommodate a device, such as with a dental crown.

The procedure itself typically involves the tooth’s outward surface to be reduced. This is often to roughen the surface and provide the adhesive a larger surface area to stick to, but it may also be to reduce existing irregularities on the tooth.

Veneers can often be made from metallic amalgam, or amalgam-free substances. While patients may be concerned about the use of amalgam in dental procedures, it is safe to use. Much of the key difference lies within personal preference. Amalgam-free options can be composed of a material which can be tailored to the natural colouration of your teeth. It is important to note that while it may resemble your tooth’s colour, it is unlikely to be an exact match. Additionally, it is unlikely to discolour or stain at the same rate as your natural teeth.

It is likely that you will be given a temporary veneer to substitute the permanent solution while it is getting set up properly. This temporary device will not have the same resilience as the upcoming fixture so you will want to take additional care when doing things such as eating until you receive your fitted veneer.
